Come and help us salvage and sort parts from end-of-life bikes and even work on refurbishing and renovating bikes. A great way to learn mechanical skills without any fear of damaging a bike. Stripping bikes provides practical knowledge of how bikes fit together and helps learn correct tool use and safety assessment of parts and bikes.
To get the most out of these sessions, we recommend you attend as many as possible to progressively advance your confidence and skills over a longer period.

Wheel Truing - Modular Course

This session gives an overview of how the parts of a standard spokes wheel work with each other, and how to make small adjustments to ensure your wheels are running true, as well as replacing a broken spoke and tensioning the spokes of a wheel. We will also look at tool options from the most basic to professional level tools.

Hydraulic Brakes - Modular Course

3 hrs£70

We take you through how to look after your hydraulic disc brakes. We go through cleaning, inspection and regular servicing, including changing brake pads and rotors and their different types and then look at the brake bleeding process. This is a hands-on day and you should leave confident that you can conduct routine servicing and know when things are working properly.

Please note - we will mainly look at Tektro/Shimano type, mineral oil, flat bar brakes. If you have drop bar levers and/or Sram/Hope brakes, please let us know beforehand so we can have suitable examples available.

Another excellent afternoon at the Bikery attending the Gearing modular workshop. Tutor Toby was friendly and informative. We covered a wide curriculum with demonstrations, hands on practical work and introductions to the extensive range of Shimano technical information which is available online. The small class size allowed for the content to be tailored to attendees specific interests. Overall, a great afternoon. Highly recommended!

I enjoyed an excellent afternoon on the Wheel Truing class. Tutor Rob was friendly and informative. The small class size ensured a high level of personal attention and wide ranging and interesting bicycle/cycling based conversation. The class provided excellent value for money and I will be on the look out for other classes to attend. Highly recommended.

Very informative and valuable workshop. Everything was explained and easy language adjusting to the learners’ ability to comprehend the information.
Practical demonstration and hands on tasks were easy to follow, and we will be able to do it ourselves. I wish I would have taken part in this workshop years ago. Thank you for sharing your expertise!
